The Book

Sing in the Shadow was Lavinia’s biography, written by close friend Gloria Kearney.

Gloria explains how the book came about.

I first met Lavinia at church. I was teaching one of her boys in school and thought it would be good to say hello, so I introduced myself. Even in that very brief exchange, I was aware of the warmth of her character.

Some time later, she joined the worship team for which I was the pianist and as we led worship together, I had the privilege of watching her worship. Her passion for God was evident in the whole-hearted way she entered into the songs.

Sing in the Shadow - a biography of Lavinia Abrol by Gloria Kearney Our relationship deepened when we started meeting as part of a prayer triplet (or prayer quintet, on occasions!) We talked about God and shared our prayer requests over the inevitable cup of tea and we laughed together and prayed together and sometimes even cried together. And often it seemed as though God came and sat around the kitchen table with us.

Lavinia then invited me to join her at some of the meetings where she told her story. Each time I heard that story, I cried – and I don’t cry easily. After the third or fourth time, I sensed that God was saying to me to write her story down so that her family and friends could have a record of her remarkable life. She said she would pray about it and after some time, told me that she too felt that it was right.

So began an amazing year for me. We met most weeks and with a cup of tea in our hands and a box of tissues between us, Lavinia told me her story. It wasn’t always the easiest story to tell and the tissues were often used but eventually we were happy with the result. Although we had not originally considered publishing it, our friends encouraged us to try and Ambassador Publications agreed to produce “Sing in the Shadow”.

Since that time, God has wonderfully blessed that little book and it has made its way to many parts of the world. The book has now been reprinted many times.

Lavinia is still one of my closest friends. We still meet to pray together and support one another’s ministries. Her simple faith is both an inspiration and a challenge to me and her sense of humour brightens up many a dull day. I just pray that God will allow us to remain friends for many years to come.”

A Sparrows Tale

New version of Sing in the Shadow is entitled A Sparrow's TaleSing in the Shadow surprised us all.  It just kept selling and having to be reprinted many times.  This is unusual here in Northern Ireland. When it went out of print people still asked for it, so, we decided on a new extended edition.

l

After 10 years we published A Sparrows tale which brings the story up to date.  We added seventeen chapters and  many photographs.  The additional chapters were written by Lavinia.
